This whole site is basically a guide or resource on building yourself an IPCop router with web content filtering capabilities. IPCop itself is a powerful routing and firewall application running on top of a Linux operating system. It's open source and best of all - free. Chances are you already have a router/firewall at your house such as a Linksys or D-Link. While they are nice, they certainly don't provide as robust of features as IPCop does.
Combined with some key plug-in's, you can transform IPCop into a web content filtering system. It will filter out undesirable content such as pornography, violence, gambling and so forth. Basically stuff you don't want your kids to accidentally see while researching their homework(which has happened to 90% of kids aged 8 - 16 years old!) on Google. It's highly configurable and possible to add your own site to black list. In addition you can also limit times in when Internet access works.
Here is an example of what a network would look like with an IPCop router.
